What we saw

• Upload took about 5 minutes and processing about 20 minutes. It made 33 clips.
• We scored the 10 clips Opus Clip ranked highest. 8 of them were usable, as they were or after a quick trim. 2 stitched unrelated moments together.
• Some clips start mid-thought or on filler. Captions were accurate.
• Opus Clip burns an automatic headline into the top clips.
• Downloaded clip lengths sometimes differed from the lengths listed in the app by a few seconds, and a few came out longer.

• The speaker’s surname was misspelled in the captions of two clips. 3 clips end mid-sentence and 1 stitches two unrelated topics together.
• Vizard burns a headline into each clip.

• KlapKlap’s free trial generated 24 clips from the test video, but it blocked every download. With no exported files there was nothing to score, so Klap is not scored in round 1.
• CapCutCapCut’s site rejected our account sign-up with “Couldn’t sign up”, even with a valid emailed code. We did not get as far as testing the feature, so CapCut is not scored in round 1. This may be down to our setup rather than the tool, and we will try again next round.
• DescriptDescript’s email sign-up returned “Unauthorized action” and no verification email was sent. We could not create an account, so Descript is not tested or scored in round 1. This may be down to our setup rather than the tool, and we will try again next round.
• Riverside Magic ClipsOn a free Riverside account, Magic Clips only offered a $24 a month Pro plan with a 14-day trial. EditBench round 1 uses free plans and we don’t start trials, so Riverside Magic Clips is not tested or scored in round 1.
• SubmagicSubmagic’s clipping is a paid add-on, so we only plan to test its captions. That test has not been run yet, so Submagic is not scored in round 1 so far.
